Overnight Explore to Devils Den

Devils Den is a fascinating place to see. It is one of my favorite roadside stops between Orlando and the panhandle, or it could be an overnight from Orlando with a stay in the cabins at Fanning Springs State park.

Devils Den is privately owned. It is a ancient sinkhole... the light is coming from the hole above that formed the sinkhole. The shot below is looking up the stairs that take you underground to the aquifer. It is a popular place to dive and snorkel, and some significant artifacts have been found there and are on display in the shop. While there are accomodations and camping on site, there may not be enough to do here to want to stay overnight if you are not a diver.

The beauty is truly magical. If you want to find out more about visiting, check out their website at www.devilsden.com The drive from Orlando is about one hour and 40 minutes.

From here, you may want to continue your explore and had down the road another 30 minutes to Fanning Springs State Park in Chiefland. The park has a great spring for swimming with a jumping platform, and has a reliable view of the manatees in the winter. If you'd like an overnight stay, the cabins onsite are very nice, but plan ahead as they do book up.
