Weeki-Wachee Springs! One of Florida's early roadside attractions. This place fascinated me, I really wanted to see those mermaids, but I had to entice my boys with the the giant slides of Florida's only spring fed water park.

We packed a cooler and did it in a day, Since you can take food into the park, we planned our arrival to start the day with the mermaid show. The mermaids are truly amazing athletes, as they do not use scuba gear, and only take an occasional breath from the dangling air tubes. Its very impressive! After that, we headed down to the boat launch to enjoy the nature boat tour that is included with admission since we were advised that the line gets longer later in the day. We enjoyed a trip down the river, and then retrieved the cooler for our picnic lunch. After lunch, we hit the water park and the kids played, swam, and slid until it was time to head back to Orlando. It was an interesting and varied day - the kind that super summer days are made of.
